Importance Of Honouring God

Bible Passage: 1 Samuel 2:29-30

 INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS HONOUR?

HONOUR: in the simplest word, Honor means to esteem, value or great respect. In other words, To honour someone is to bestow value upon Him or to highly Esteemed another. It is very important to note that all authority and Honor belongs to God Alone ( 1 Timothy 1:17 ; Rev. 5:13). On this lesson, we all point out why and how we should honour God. ( see Malachi 1:6 ) Honour is also the act to obey authority. But in this case, we're going to talk about Honouring God who is our Creator.

• To Honour can be the act of serving with trembling and (Holy) Fear.
• showing Honor is also the act of being submissive and,
• Honour and also means humility, sincerity, truthfulness and honesty.

Text Review: 1 Samuel 2:29 - 30
(see verse 29) Why do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling place, and honor your sons more than Me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel My people?’ I Samuel 2:29 NKJV ( Indicates Dishonour or Disvalue: the priest was going against the commandment and precept of God by disobedient, but not just that, was also bestowing more value to his sons more than God which he therefore gave the that belongs to God unto his son. He was enjoying all the offerings from the people of Israel and putting more focus on himself and family more than God and leaving the work of God who has appointed him into the office of a priest. He began to enjoy the gift and neglecting the giver of the gift. He was busy adding more value to himself and sons than the God that gave him the opportunity to even be know as a leader or priest. God was so displeased.
Because of this offences that was listed in verse, The LORD Said;
( see verse 30 ) Therefore the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed. I Samuel 2:30 NKJV
( though God has already declared to the family of priest to walk before Himself. But therefore the family was automatically rejected from walking with God for dishonouring God. This cost the priest to lose his office as a priest and Lost his opportunity to walk before God unlike our ancestors Abraham who walk before God With Trembling and Great Honour. So therefore, when anyone refuse to honour God, God Himself will also likewise refuse to honour that individual and also if anyone despise God, will be less valuable unto him just like pharaoh who refuse to honour God nor acknowledge him and suffered the consequences by the pledge against him and to the losing of his son.
If therefore we say that God is our master, in what way do we reverence Him? Malachi 1:6 “A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’
If we take God to be our Father, Where is our Fatherly fear or respect? Why are we not Trembling and serving in sincerity and truth? Why are we not been submissive to His voice and commandment. Let therefore honour God with thankfulness ( Full Of Thanks) because He has not dealt with us according to our iniquity and sin, He showed us Love and kindness even we been unworthy of His mercy.
Question: WHY SHOULD WE HONOUR GOD?
( see Rev.4:11 ) “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
